SOS- Final Preparations

Javi and Lorenzo give the thumps up to our pilots 8yr old son that came along from the ride. We had to navigate by moon light and head torch to the hill side sticking out just in front of the coppers nose, that's where the Rutherford Stream comes out.
We opted to fly in to Rankin's Hut via helicopter from Mt Cook Village for the Symphony last Friday night, rather than trying to access the upper Godley by 4wd. The weather window opened and we wanted to make the most of it!
One final check of the map by candle light before our chocolate and fruit dessert
We flew into Rankin's Hut with nothing more than our day packs for skiing and some pre cooked pasta, hence no sleeping bags.....
What time? GO TIME!
Stay tuned for more...........

Symphony On Skis

Rankin's Hut, Godley Valley
Finally did the Symphony On Ski over the weekend. It has been a goal of mine for a while now to do a "fast Symphony", so it was amazingly satisfying as Lorenzo, Javi and I skied down to Chancellor Hut on Saturday evening, having started in the darkness earlier that morning from Rankin's Hut in the Godley Valley.
Javi, Grant, Lorenzo- Graham Saddle, with Mt Cook behind us
Skiing down to Chacellor Hut, Fox Glacier
A big thanks to Dynafit for setting us up with a full kit of gear, especially the new Dy.N.A race boot and World Cup race skis.
Also thanks to Yoli, Vio and Fred who meet us at Chancellor with food, dry clothes and sleeping bags.
More details to come.......
"The skier who forsakes the lifts to climb under his own power to a mountain summit is a very different person from the downhill only piste basher and is often regarded by the latter as something of a curiosity.
But he was the creator of the sport; and possibly with him lies the future"
-Robin Fedden, The book of Europen Skiing, 1966
