The Tour, a New Setup and Art

THE TOUR So I have been talking (I do a lot of if) about organising a bigger ski mountaineering race for a while now. making a 2 day stage race, for teams of 2, kind of like the TSF or a shorter version of the Pierra Menta. I have finaly got the ball rolling, I sent out letters to possible sponsors, started on my concession application to DOC and started looking in in event insurance. Most importantly I have done a possible race map!The race, or I should say "The Tour" which is what I am naming it, will be based out of Cheeseman ski area. Cheeseman is a great place for this kind of even as it offers really easy access to the backcountry, meaning less time skiing around the ski area. There will be a gear check and pre race meeting the night before and a awards lunch on the Sunday afternoon. We haven't set entry fee yet (it will depend a lot on insurance and such) but I hope to do a package deal, that will include entry to the race, accommodation and meals. So it could be getting up to $400 per team-I would love to hear feed back on this. Click on the above map for a better look. So you all know, entry will be limited to 25 team (possibly making 5 of those spots for female teams), so you have to get in quick when entries open!

Dave's new setup- Mounted up a pair of Se7en Summits with TLT Vertical Lite bindings today for a mate Dave. Pretty sweet set up to say the least! Nice and lite and will be able to handle all conditions nicely. The Se7en Summit really is a quiver of one, so it was a good choice for Dave, who wanted something for general touring, fast and light missions and the odd ski mountaineering race (The Tour!). Dave went with the super solid Zzero4 PX, the lightest 4 buckle boot in the Dynafit line. All we need is some snow!

My Girl Friend, the Artist-

I have to say I think Jane is pretty hand with brush in handy. Below is her latest. My photo taking skills don't do it justin.

On The Mend

Haven't been posting much lately as I have had a run of injuries since our trip to Totaranui (which was great!) and didn't feel that "I'm injured and its great fun" would be that good of a post. Its started with a achilles heal niggle, then a tingling in my groin/hamstring area and then settled in on a tendon in my lower right leg. My training had been going really well, I was feeling like I was just settling in to a good routine and feeling strong. I had a great training run over the Avalanche Peak Challenge course, reaching the summit of Avalanche Peak in 55mins and getting to Klondye Corner in under 3hrs. I had planned to run over bits, if not the whole course at least another 2 times. Having not run in coming on a month is a real disappointment. The good news is am finaly on the mend. The swelling in my leg has gonna down and I have been out on a few bike rides. I am confident of doing the Avalanche Peak Challenge, but my goal of a top 5 finish is probably now unlikely.

"The skier who forsakes the lifts to climb under his own power to a mountain summit is a very different person from the downhill only piste basher and is often regarded by the latter as something of a curiosity.
But he was the creator of the sport; and possibly with him lies the future"
-Robin Fedden, The book of Europen Skiing, 1966
